Children’s Charity Sunday - 12th September Dragon Boat Race
STICK YOUR OAR IN FOR “ACTION for CHILDREN”!
The Ancient Chinese tradition of Dragon Boat Racing goes back more than 2000 years to 01 AD; teams of paddlers race against each other across 250 metres of water, in long medieval style boats. The picturesque surroundings of Bewl Water Reservoir are perfect for the annual Dragon Boat Race event.
We are actively recruiting teams for the event on Sunday 12th September. The day will run from around 9.30am-4pm.
Bewl Water reservoir is just off the A21, south of Tunbridge Wells (www.bewl.co.uk)
Dragon Boat Racing is a lot of fun. As a competitor you will take part in several races, but also get to spend time relaxing, and being well looked after by the Action for Children team. As well as having a hospitality marquee for teams and their supporters, we will provide all our paddlers with delicious home-made snacks to keep you going!
This really is a fantastically good fun day for all the family: Bands will play for your entertainment, there will be stalls and games for all ages, and plenty of space for impromptu games of frisbee and football! Spectators and “cheerers” are very welcome.
- Why support Action for Children?
We ask our teams to raise sponsorship for Action for Children, and here’s why: Action for Children supports over 170,000 vulnerable children, young people and their families affected by issues such as homelessness, poverty, neglect, family break-up, disability and much more. We have 450 projects across the UK, and these wouldn’t be in existence without the support of those who will take part in the Dragon Boat Race on 12th September. By entering a team into the race, you will be making a crucial difference to these children’s lives, and helping Action for Children achieve its vision:
“A world where all children and young people have a sense of belonging, and are loved and valued. A world where they can fulfil their potential, shape their destiny and experience the joy of life”.
You need a minimum of 16 rowers and 1 drummer to take part in the race (2 or 3 subs are also recommended). No experience is necessary, but rowers must be at least 18yrs old. All you need to do to now is register your team with Action for Children. If you are raring to go please print out and fill in the application form below and send back to me at the address provided. We only have a limited number of team spaces available and the event gets very popular, so please get in touch as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
